Angeli Sosa, Colaborativa La Milpa

I am a Latina immigrant from the Dominican Republic (my mother’s side is from the coast of Spain). Inspired by the varying experiences my family faced as we navigated a new country with a new language and customs, I began understanding the need for a more robust narrative around the Latino perspective and our vivid cultural richness in a foreign land. My passion for language and communication led me to study in this field, and pursue social justice from the framework of words and rhythm (being both a dancer and a writer by hobby). I continue to contribute my small grain of sand in the vast and dynamic movement of social change through my role as the executive director of Colaborativa La Milpa. I thrive where collective empowerment is lifted through a robust democratic ecosystem. Perpetual growth and expansion shines through those voices that share a similar vision of freedom, and amplifies in the ways we move through life and connect with others. I value community and solidarity above all other virtues.
